Scared No More

This entire summer, Caleigh has been scared of the show at Six Flags, iLuminate.  This has been really difficult for me because the show venue is the one place in the whole park that is totally air conditioned and has seating available.  Even though the show is only about 15 minutes long, she would fight me tooth and nail to not have to go inside.

On a recent trip with Chris and Molly, after much fit pitching, we got her to go inside.  This time she was afraid but would attempt to watch certain parts.  I never forced her to watch any of it.  I simply told her what was happening and let her choose to look up or not.

She made it through the whole show and I got to cool off from the intense heat that lurked outside.  At the end of the show, the actors came to the front of the stage to take pictures and Caleigh ASKED if she could go up there!  WHAT?  Is this Caleigh?  Who took my child and whose do I have right now?

Of course I happily took her up to meet the people and she was all too happy to talk to them.  She told them that they didn't scare her anymore and when they asked her what she thought of the show, her reply was simply "Awesome."

My heart was swelling with pride as I took these couple of pictures.  ( Sorry the lights give off such a glare in the pics, but they sure do look awesome in person.)  Caleigh had faced and overcame a huge fear of hers.  And I know from experience that overcoming any fear can be a monumental challenge, but that day, she was triumphant.

Also, on this particular weekend, Coke was there with a freezing cold air conditioned dome that they were serving free ice cold Coke out of.  It was so nice that we wanted to stay in there for a long time.  The flashing lights and super loud music drove us out fast though.

We ended that day with one happy and proud little girl.  She had to make phone calls to tell everyone about her big accomplishment!

On a Six Flags side note, this same week, Chad and I took a day to go to Six Flags with just each other.  We anticipated riding all of the things that we don't usually get to ride when we have kids in tow.  We did get to ride a few of those rides but found out that in order to ride some of the bigger coasters that you now are required to leave any items you are carrying with you with a non-rider or pay extra money to rent a ride locker to store your things in order to be allowed in line.  I didn't feel like renting a locker for an extra $9, so we skipped those rides.  And, it was VERY VERY hot the day we went.  It was in the 100's actually and very muggy.  So, we didn't stay all day.  Instead, we went to pick up Caleigh from my mom's.  When we got there, they weren't home, so I decided to vacuum the pool to get it ready for our next swimming day while Chad cut the grass.  Needless to say, Chad and I ended the day exhausted and were overly sore the next day. LOL
